Vernon DbacksThe D'Backs battled the Kamloops Black Sox on Saturday at Norbrock Stadium in Kamloops.

Vernon struck first in game 1 after executing on some small ball. Pete Ortman led off the first inning with a walk and was moved over to 2nd on a sacrifice bunt by Steve Daamen. Ortman then reached 3rd on a passed ball and scored on a balk. The lead was short lived as Kamloops responded with 2 runs in their half of the first and 2 in the 2nd.

Pete Ortman got things going for the ANAF D'Backs in the 3rd , leading off the inning with a single and eventually scoring on an error by the Kamloops pitcher. Kamloops added 2 more in the 4th to take a 6-2 lead.

In the 5th, Daamen and Oggie Ortman started the inning with singles before advancing on a double steal. That set the table for Ryan Boe who narrowly missed his 2nd home run of the season, cashing in Daamen on a sacrifice fly to left. Kyle Anderson then collected an RBI single to bring Vernon within 2. That would be all runs the ANAF D'Backs could produce as they fell 6-4.

In game 2 in was Vernon striking first again with 2 runs. With Daamen and Oggie Ortman in scoring position, Boe smacked a single to score both runners. From there, starter Pete Ortman, took over and threw his best game of the season striking out 6 of his first 11 batters faced.

Vernon's bats came alive again in the 4th as they counted 3 times with RBI from John McInnis (2) and Geoff Cleaveley. In the fourth, Ortman ran into a bit of trouble surrendering 2 doubles and 2 runs to put Kamloops within 3. After that, Ortman was lights out, fanning 7 straight and holding Kamloops scoreless. Vernon took game 2, 5-2. Ortman tossed a complete game 3 hitter, striking out 15 Black Sox.

"Petey was amazing today. He pitched ahead all game. His curve ball was working and his fastball really heated up after he gave up a couple hits in the fourth." (Oggie Ortman)

The ANAF Diamondbacks will host the Kamloops SunDevils on Saturday at 1pm and host the Black Sox on Sunday at 1pm at Marshall Field.
