56417news_35_20090623161200_lv_d_backs_bw_20090624The Vernon ANAF Diamondbacks slithered their way back into 3rd place in the OMBL standings on the weekend, winning 3 of 4 games over the weekend at Marshall Field.

On Saturday, the D'Backs hosted the undefeated Sun Devils. Ryan Boe got the start and went 6 and 2/3 giving up 4 runs on 4 hits, 4 walks, and 4 K's. Vernon trailed 1-0 going into the 4th when Josh Wade smacked a single to right. After McInnis grounded out to put Wade into scoring position, Geoff Cleaveley clutched up to drive Wade in. The score remained tied until the 6th. Kamloops got one in their half before the D'Backs played small ball to score 4. After an error that put Boe on first, Wade and McInnis placed perfect bunts to load the bases. Cleaveley, Bryce Whitehouse, and Oggie Ortman (Sac fly) all collected ribbies in the inning. Vernon took a 5-2 lead into the 7th. The Devils made a push in the 7th scoring twice before Ortman came in for the save. The D'Backs took game 1, 5-4.

With the win, the D'Backs ruined the Sun Devils' perfect season. "It was a great win! We played our style of ball and won because of it."

In game 2 Vernon ran into some great pitching and fell 12-1.

On Sunday the Black Sox were in town and brought some great pitching as well, holding Vernon to 1 run. Fortunately, Kyle Anderson tossed a shut out. Anderson gave up 9 hits, 5 walks, and fanned 5. The defence behind Anderson was also blemishless, turning 2 double plays and getting their uni's dirty.

In game 2 Vernon took an early lead scoring once in the 1st, 4 times in the 3rd, and once in the 4th to take a 6-1 lead. Oggie Ortman led the way collecting an RBI and 2 doubles. Wade continued his assault on OMBL pitching, ripping 2 singles and adding another RBI to his total. McInnis went 5 strong surrendering 2 runs on 4 walks and 3 hits before giving way to Jarrod Sochan who set up Mike Pattitucci for the save. The ANAF D'Backs took game 2 6-4.

"We had 3 solid wins this weekend. We got a lot of innings from out starters and turned a bunch of double plays. We've proven to ourselves that we can beat the Sun Devils. We just have to do it again in playoffs."
